My future Classroom

The future classroom I am creating this assignment for is a Spanish 3 classroom. In this class, there are varying levels of proficiency and comprehension. I am basing my diversity from my past teacher assisting classroom, where we had one RTI student, reading Spanish at a novice-low, while the other students are between novice-mid. Out of 25 students, we have three students who would be Hispanic migrant students who will speak very good Spanish but have varied reading/writing skills. Generally, migrant students speak Spanish/English at home, but are only educated through our system in English reading and writing. The rest of my students would be from middle class families. I see great value in using a blog in my future classroom because my ninth and tenth grade students will be required to be technologically literate. Although I will have some outliers in my classroom (proficiency level), by allowing students the creativity with this assignments, allows students to demonstrate what they want write about  and show me their own skills, instead of me requiring them to write about certain topics.

They will be at the level now where they have mastered the present tense which is novice-low and will be working with the past (the preterit and imperfect) novice-med/high. They will have vocabulary that is from their daily routine (household items, classroom items, food). In their first Unit for year three, they will be working on family vacations and hobbies.

About the Blog

This blog will allow them to use their vocabulary that they already know (food from the market place, adjectives/descriptors of the date, time, and weather) and they will apply what they are learning about outdoor activities and hobbies (swimming, running, skiing, camping, etc.)

Another way in which I would use a blog is to have my students create travelers blogs. For instance, I could have my students pretend to go to another country and while they were exploring their country, they would be told to blog about their experiences in that country. This would give my entire class the chance to learn about other Spanish speaking countries while having the opportunity to use their Spanish creatively in their posts. In the blog I created for our Unit 2 deliverable assignment, is a template to what it would look like in the future. I posted a greeting to the students, telling them about the assignment and how they will be required to create a blog using blogger and I require them to write three different entries, with one entry containing a link to another website giving more information to their readers about their country.

I see this tool as valuable, especially with teaching Spanish because it will be great for my students to blog about their experiences in learning a second language. Not only will they have the chance to express their experiences with me, but they will have a chance to respond to other classmate’s opinions, ideas and challenges associated with second language learning.
